Pineapple Gojju

Pineapple Gojju is a very famous, all time favourite dish in Karnataka. A mandatory dish in all functions across South Karnataka especially for Brahmins , it is a tangy delicacy!


  • Canned (small) crushed pineapple
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dhal
  • 1 tsp channa dhal
  • 3 red chilles
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1 tsp chick peas
  • ¼ tsp asafetida paste
  • ½ tsp tamarind paste
  • A small piece of jiggery /1 tsb brown sugar
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • 4-5 oil for frying
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds


  •  Dry fry sesame seeds, Urad dhal, channa dhal, chilies and asafetida till they are all roasted properly (frying time 5-6 minutes).
  • Grind the fried ingredients with green chilies, chick peas, tamarind paste, jiggery (or brow sugar) and grated coconut to a smooth paste (add little water while grinding).
  • Preheat Home Classic pot then put mustard seeds and allow mustard seeds to pop.
  • Then put crushed pineapple to it and cook the pineapple and add salt according to taste. Close the lid and cook further for 5 minutes and switch off the gas.
  • This goes well as a side dish with Chapathis or Rice & rasam and can be eaten hot or cold.
